Statistics nationwide say that there is an 85% recidivism rate. That is to say that 8.5 men incarcerated will return to prison. At this point we need to ask ourselves a question, “If prison was designed to discipline and correct a person’s behavior, why do so many go back to their old ways and end up back in the system.
One of the major reasons is that prison life to some extent offers structure. If you look at the world you see that whatever environments men have been put in they have somehow managed to adapt, be it good or bad. How would we then propose to make a change? With out Vision, People Perish.
Having had an opportunity to see it from both perspectives, we need men to sit down and reason together. There is wisdom in a multitude of counsel. What we seek to happen is that men would come together and build relationships, if only for moment. Men need to be transformed by the renewing of their minds.
Therefore, we have formed a brotherhood, called “In The Company of Good Men.” This is not a prison ministry, but men coming together for the purpose of sharpening one another. This is not about joining a specific church, but of coming into a relationship with our creator.
With all of this being said, I invite you to take some time to sit down with other men and share the journey of life. In my pursuit to find out who I was, I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t about who I was, but whose I was.
